If you are as serious about your music as we are, you will definitely want your own home recording studio before long. Today we chat with Kyle Cresson of PrimeFirst Home Inspections in Dallas Texas about what is needed for the perfect setup.
Mike: Thank you so much for joining us today, Kyle. So first off, can you just give us a few tips.
Kyle: Sure. And thanks for having me, Mike. The perfect home studio doesn’t necessarily look the same for everyone. Some people have plans of professionally recording music while others need an entire sound and video set-up. One of the first things you need to decide is how important the output of your hard work is to your overall objective.
Mike: Most of our readers are focused on just a sound studio. Is this a big undertaking?
Kyle: It definitely can be, but we inspect a lot of home studios. Actually, a surprising number of them in Dallas, considering Dallas is not a hotbed of musical talent. One thing we are amazed by is how much the recording studio increases the value of the home and the perception of the quality of the rest of the home to buyers.
Mike: Do you hear this from realtors?
Kyle: Absolutely. We don’t request referrals from realtors because we are independent. However, we often hear after the case that a buyer was fascinated by the recording studio.
Mike: So what are a few things to be on the look-out for?
Kyle: You must fit your studio to your budget and to your end objective. Don’t spend $15,000 on insulation when a $3,000 do-it-yourself sound boards will work fine.
Mike: I assume the same can be said for most parts of the studio.
Kyle: Definitely so. But I will mention that you also want to be able to grow as needed. We get called out to do pre-listing inspections when a homeowner may not have had a new addition permitted with the city and they ended up running some electrical in areas that they shouldn’t have. My advice is to just plan for that growth up front and you’re equipment and future upgrades will flow quite nicely into the overall home’s worth.
Mike: Awesome. Kyle, thank you so much for your time today. If any of you are in Dallas Texas, we strongly recommend you reach out to Kyle’s home inspection company at https://primefirstinspections.com.
